Rope Rescue Courses
These technical ropes courses follow the knowledge and skills requirements for the NFPA 1670 and NFPA 1006 standards at Operations Level (Low Angle Rope Rescue Operations -LARRO) and at the Technician Level (High Angle Rope Rescue Tech HARRT) for technical rope incidents. Our classes are hands on and field oriented. A short classroom session is followed by multiple days of practical field experience. Our field settings are specially selected for their excellent training potential. Knowledge and skills are tracked in a dedicated task book and sign-off sheet.
Low Angle Rope Rescue : Operations
Click here for dates & locations or full course description. This course follows the requirements for the NFPA 1670 and NFPA 1006 standards at the Operations level for technical rope incidents. This five-day course is practical field based, and designed to get hands on practice with Operations Levels skills such as raising and lowering, ascending and rappelling, and problem solving while also gaining knowledge about safety factors, scene management, equipment, mechanical advantage and much more. There is no rope training per-requisite for this course.
High Angle Rope Rescue : Technician

This seven-day course follows the requirements for the Technician level for the NFPA 1670 and NFPA 1006 Standard for technical rope incidents. It includes all components of the Operations level, with the additional skills of vertical litter tending, vertical pick-offs, high-lines and offsets, victim management, more vertical raising and lowering and operating as incident leader. It is an intensive, hands on course taught in the field. While there is no rope training per-requisite for this course, it will need to be followed by more training and practicing of the skills before Technician Level can be achieved for those of you taking a rope course for the first time.
California State Fire Marshal: Low Angle Rope Rescue Operations and Rescue 3 International Rope Rescue Courses
Click here for dates & locations or full course description. This course is accredited by the California State Fire Marshal’ Office for the Fire Service Training and Education Program (FSTEP). After completion of this five-day (40 hour) course, participants will receive their CSFM Low Angle Rope Rescue Operations FSTEP certificate. This course meets the requirements of NFPA 1670 standard for Operations level for technical rope incidents. Sierra Rescue also offers California State Fire Marshal River & Flood Rescue and Boat Operations courses along with the most of Rescue 3 Internationals Rope and Water rescue courses
Technical Rope Access

We have worked with the FBI, USFS, DFG, and others to create a curriculum that develops the technical rope skills relevant to both the environment and equipment available to the personnel. The course is taught compliant with any OSHA laws and regulations that apply.
